“As every art teacher knows, children’s artwork is amazing: inventive, surprising, charming, and sometimes even funny. We art teachers get to see the breadth of child art, even beyond the boundaries of the one refrigerator where it is most treasured. “   Susan Wolf feels that art teachers have the huge responsibility of being most kids’ main contact with the very idea of art. That It is their purpose to help kids

• develop familiarity with a breadth of art materials,
• learn about and even create their own strategies for making art,
• know that art exists in actual places they can visit . . . nearby and all around the world.

  By sharing visual memories of her teaching years, She hopes to share the wonder of children’s art!   Susan Wolf is a painter with particular interests in non-traditional portraiture and children’s book illustration. This exhibit includes six portraits of children showing their artwork, as well as paintings of students working on their art projects.   “Because I am also a writer (poetry and memoir) I give particular attention to the stories that come through my paintings.  My style is influenced by my love of intense color. “   While Susan had planned to be an artist when she completed her BFA at Antioch in 1979, at the last minute she added Art Teacher Certification to her program.  Thus began a meandering professional life that went from teaching to graphic design to technical writing and illustration and back to teaching again.   In addition to her art teacher paintings, the exhibit will include some examples of children’s art and illustrations from Susan’s book, “Some Cats!”   Please join us at her opening reception Sept. 20^th 6-9 pm.
