Book Signing with Didi Pershouse

February 23, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 7:45 pm

Free

The Arthur Morgan Institute for Community Solutions would like to invite their friends and neighbors to join them for a book signing event for The Ecology of Care: Medicine, Agriculture, Money, and the Quiet Power of Human and Microbial Communities with Didi Pershouse. The signing will take place at the Yellow Springs Library on Thursday, February 23rd, 6:30 PM – 7:45 PM.
In The Ecology of Care, Pershouse takes us on a fast-moving, sharp-witted journey through her own life: from growing up with the neurosurgeon who accidentally discovered the seat of memory in the brain, to working in a smoke-filled office at New York magazine, to her career as an innovative acupuncturist in Vermont, and on to a passion for close-knit communities, grazing cows, and soil restoration as solutions to much of what ails us.
Pershouse is the founder of the Center for Sustainable Medicine. After 22 years of clinical work with patients, she is now working with the Soil Carbon Coalition on a large-scale citizen-science program that engages schools, conservation districts, farmers, and the public in understanding the intersections between soil, water, public health, and climate resiliency. She develops curriculum on soil health principles and whole systems landscape function, and facilitates workshops that empower communities through mutual listening.
This exciting event comes on the eve of the Community Solutions Healthy Soils Symposium, a gathering of extension agents, farmers, researchers, gardeners, academics and climate activists exploring the importance of soil quality to human health and climate cooling.
