On Thursday, January 26th, 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Herndon Gallery at Antioch College, Crystal Michelle Perkins, Associate Director of the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, will perform her multimedia work, Boxing up Beautiful. The choreographed dance and projected imagery work is a dynamic performance that engages 200-years of visual history effecting black women’s bodies in America. Perkins projects colorful present day imagery and vintage video footage of Black women’s bodies against her own. As a way to physically pay homage to African American history, this dance explores the possibilities of a body image that actively questions the confines of race.
