Community Solutions Soil Symposium

February 24, 2017 - February 25, 2017

The importance of soil quality to human health and climate cooling will be the focus of a Healthy Soil Symposium on February 24th – 25th, 2017, in room #113 of McGregor Hall on the Antioch College campus in Yellow Springs. The event is sponsored by the Arthur Morgan Institute for Community Solutions in partnership with Antioch College, Central State University, and the Soil Carbon Coalition.

 

The symposium will include presentations by area farmers, extension agents, researchers, gardeners, academics and climate activists. It will cover a range of topics, including

soil and its impact on water systems, built infrastructure, health, and community resilience; the local and global soil landscape; urban greenscaping solutions; and the many ways that regenerative soil practice is moving forward.

 

Speakers include keynote Didi Pershouse of the Soil Carbon Coalition; Doug Seibert and Leslie Garcia of Peach Mountain Organics; area carbon farmer David Brandt; permaculture activist Peter Bane; Sabrena Schweyer of Salsbury-Schweyer Landscape Design; Chad Bitler of Greenacres Farm; and other area farmers, gardeners and regional soil practitioners.
