The internet is a utility, like electricity and water. By optimizing access to information services with fiber, the village addresses many of its strategic economic, communication, and municipal service goals. A group of Yellow Springs, Ohio residents have organized to lobby the village to construct a fiber optic network. We wish to make Yellow Springs a “DIGITAL DESTINATION”. Imagine a high-speed, affordable internet access. Here in Yellow Springs. Owned and operated not by a huge corporate entity but by our Village. We believe this is important for a number of reasons:

An incentive to attract and develop new business ventures in the village.
Beneficial to the community at large by providing much faster and affordable Internet service to local residents & business.
Provides new revenue streams for our village that will stay in our village.
A backbone for Wi-Fi access downtown and other areas.
Creates options for video streaming and multicast video as well as telephone service.
Provides a locally controlled resource that will resist attempts to override Net Neutrality by large telecommunication carriers.
Can be utilized for smart grid functionality and for emergency services (Police & Fire)

Gigabit capacity is available through the MVECA Data Center. With the Y.S. municipality serving as a regional broker, we can offer sustained and extremely fast Internet services at an affordable price.
