NAMI mobile comes to Yellow Springs

July 22, 2014 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Free

On Tuesday, July 22, the NAMImobile will be at the downtown Village BP at 4 Xenia Avenue (intersection of U.S. 68 and Corry Street), from 11 a..-12:30 p.m.

NAMI (National Association of Mental Illness) is a national organization dedicated to breaking the stigma associated with mental illness. About one in four persons, many of who are in denial about their disease, face a fear of discrimination that prevents them from seeking help.

Representatives from NAMI Ohio, NAMI Yellow Springs, and NAMI Greene County will answer questions about mental illness and share resources. They will not diagnose anyone but will share the symptoms and warnings signs of mental illness and tell interested persons how to seek help for themselves or for others.

A local NAMI group was started September 2013 and has grown in number of attendees. A peer group for those with mental illness meets every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the John Bryan Community Center Rooms A&B. A group for family members and friends of those with mental illness meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Yellow Springs Senior Center Great Room. NAMI-trained facilitators lead both meetings, which are confidential and free of charge.
