Yellow Springs Contra Dance

September 27, 2014 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Free

Yellow Springs Contra Dance
A monthly dance with live music, on 4th Saturdays
NEW LOCATION FOR THIS TIME ONLY: Bryan Community Center, 100 Dayton Street
When: Saturday, September 27
Music Session: 6-7 P.M.
Dance: 7-10 P.M.

Where: The Bryan Center gym, 100 Dayton St., Yellow Springs. (Same building as the police station.) The gym is on the lower level, on the east side.

We will be holding an hour-long music session at 6:00, before the dance. If you play an instrument, please join us, even if you are not familiar with contra dance music. Bring a tune to teach, learn some new ones, or just come to play along and get a feel for the music. Contra dance music is a loose genre that draws heavily on Scots-Irish, Cape Breton, and American old-time sources, but it doesn’t have to stay “trad.” The only real rule is “can you dance to it?”

At 7:00, we’ll hold the dance itself:
Caller: Margaret Ann Goodman
Music: Open Band featuring Deborah Clark Colón (fiddle), Mark DeLozier (piano), Ben Hemmendinger (accordion), the Kosey Tribe, and other regulars.

Guest musicians and callers are welcome and encouraged. We’ll have some instruction for new dancers as the dance begins at 7:00.

This dance will be FREE for everyone.
