Anne Braden: Southern Patriot provides a moving biography of a Southern white woman organizer and journalist who for a remarkable 60 years participated in the most significant movements for racial and economic justic in this country’s most conservative region — the South. Praised by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., for her steadfast support of civil rights, Braden was threatened, attacked, and labeled a “Communist agitator” and “race traitor” by white supremacists.
