Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month is a national effort to raise awareness about abuse in teen and 20-something relationships and promote programs that prevent its occurrence.

The Family Violence Prevention Center of Greene County has a major activity planned to raise awareness locally and encourage support for this common problem. They will host a Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event which is a playful opportunity for men/boys to raise awareness in their community about the serious causes and effects of sexualized violence against women.

There is an old saying: “You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.” Walk a Mile in Her Shoes asks young men to literally walk one mile in ladies high-heeled shoes! It’s not easy walking in these shoes, but it is a fun and creative way to get the community to talk about something that’s really difficult to discuss: gender relations and sexual violence. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes will be held at the Five Seasons Family Sports Club in Bellbrook on Saturday, February 28 at2PM. Female and male participants of all ages are encouraged to attend and support the cause! Prizes will be awarded for different categories of participation. All proceeds benefit the Family Violence Prevention Center’s Prevention Education Program.

Violence is part of our world today, but action is being taken by schools and community organizations thathave begun to make a difference. The Family Violence Prevention Center (FVPC) offers 3-day comprehensive violence prevention workshops in the Greene County Public Schools to both 7th and 8th grade and high school health classes with great results.
