Paul Talyor: Creative Domain is a dance documentary showcase. Will also be shown with Bognar/Reichert short film documentary Sparkle.

With over twenty-two years of creative tradition, the Yellow Springs Community Dance Concerts will present two documentary films as part of the Community Presents program of the Little Art Theatre. The feature film is an award-winning documentary by Kate Geis of American master choreographer, Paul Taylor in Paul Taylor: Creative Domain, and will be preceded by Sparkle, a short awarding winning documentary film of Sheri “Sparkle” Williams of the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company by resident Emmy-nominated filmmakers Steve Bognar and Julia Reichert. The films will be shown at 7:00 pm on Monday, November 16, at the Little Art Theatre, 247 Xenia Avenue, Yellow Springs, OH. This event is free and open to the public. Donations to YS Community Dance Concerts are suggested at the door. 

Paul Taylor: Creative Domain is a rare documentation of the creative process of one of the most acclaimed choreographers in American history. It is the next chapter in Mr. Taylor’s filmography since Matthew Diamond’s Dancemaker and follows Mr. Taylor, now 84, during his creative period choreographing Three Dubious Memories, his 133rd dance. We are present from the first day the dance is cast to its premiere.

Sparkle tells the story of celebrated Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) dancer Sheri “Sparkle” Williams as she recovers from the first major injury in her then 38-year career.

Yellow Springs Community Dance Concerts and YS Dance, is a local Yellow Springs organization that welcomes any and all dance artists from seasoned professionals to natural movers. Our mission is to make it easier for all dancers to be creative and thriving artists. YS Dance helps dance artists find and fund rehearsal space, sponsors dance and choreography classes and workshops, and provides the community with year round dance performances in concert, on the streets, at the library, and wherever we feel so moved.

During the year, we have provided free dance and choreography workshops for dancers in the concert, but anyone is invited to participate for a small fee. YS Dance has sponsored the annual Thrill the World event, and collaborated with many local arts organizations. We have worked collaboratively with the Yellow Springs Arts Council, Yellow Springs Chamber of Commerce, Yellow Springs Kids Playhouse, the World House Choir, and our members are part of Egyptian Breeze Belly Dance Troupe, and Soul Fire Tribe.
