A Shopping Experience and Fundraiser for the Arts

The YSAC Holiday Art Jumble is coming back for it’s 5th year this December!

Boxes full of Art, Art Supplies and ‘arty’ stuff are starting to show up at our gallery door.  Crafty things are starting to pile up on our tables. In our closets are rolled up textile art.  All year long phone calls and e mails have asked “when can we start bringing  donations for the Jumble?”  Some of our basements are starting to squeak-”too full, too much art!  When is the Jumble coming?”

Starting November 19th, Enjoy all the surprises you can find at the Holiday Art Jumble. You never know what you will find because we never know what will be donated!  Last year, in a box with a little, pink Christmas tree and antique glass ornaments, we discovered a beautiful, long gold chain with a Victorian gold watch attached. 

We love the advance peeking we get to do as each mystery box arrives.

Then comes an intense week for the Gallery Committee, aka ‘the Jumble Elves’ of unpacking, washing and polishing.  Laying everything out, and choosing what looks best with what. With much discussion, we hang the Wall Art, (parlor style, there is so much of it!) We set up the tables with extra small pedestal for different heights, smooth out the tablecloths and make it all look beautiful.

During all of this, the cheerful arguing over pricing goes on-”is this too low? Too high? What would you pay for this,and still think you got a fabulous deal?”

Last comes the piles of fresh cut pine boughs, left by the door by a wonderful volunteer.  We tuck them in and around, and do a final toss of sparkling glitter on the table cloths and we are good to go..  The Holiday Art Jumble is ready to open.

Even after the Jumble opens on the 19^th, more Art and hand made Crafts and totally cool ‘arty’ things arrive on our doorstep all month long. (Thanks to all the artists and art lovers in Yellow Springs!) We keep adding goodies and pricing it low.  We want the Jumble to feel like a treasure hunt, for people to have fun and find a wonderful bargain.  And while having fun they are supporting the arts in Yellow Springs. What a great way to shop!
