$15

About the Westcott CA+D
The Westcott House Foundation and Springfield Preservation Alliance established the Westcott Center for
Architecture + Design in 2013 as a regional resource to promote creative placemaking strategies through
programs on architecture, design, and the history of the built environment. Westcott members receive discounts
and special invitations to all Center for Architecture + Design programs, as well as free admission to Frank Lloyd
Wright’s Westcott House.

About the Series
The first Summer Tour Series was offered in 2004. Then called the Summer Walking Tour Series, it featured eight
guided walks of popular neighborhoods and districts in Springfield, Ohio. Over the past decade, the Summer Tour
Series has grown into one of the most successful architectural tour programs in the country. In addition to the
popular walking tours, the organization added youth tours in 2007, happy hour tours in 2010, bicycle tours in 2011,
site tours in 2013, extended walking tours in 2015, and coach tours in 2016. The series has more than doubled in
size over the past twelve years, now encompassing eighteen guided tours in and around the Greater Springfield
Region each summer. The 2016 Summer Tour Series features six all-new tours, making this summer’s program the
most ambitious since the inaugural series. In addition, fifteen of the eighteen tours were not offered last season.

Walking Tours
Walking Tours feature remarkable districts and neighborhoods in the region. Tours last approximately one and a
half to two hours. Rain dates are the following day at 1 pm.

Saturday, June 25 at 10 am / Guided by Kevin Rose and Scott Sanders / Mobility 3
$15 General / $12 Members
In 1944, Antioch College hired the celebrated architectural firm of Saarinen & Swanson to envision a modern
campus that could meet the demands of increased enrollment following World War II. Over the next decade, amid
the backdrop of the Red Scare and McCarthyism, Antioch reshaped its campus into a bastion of avant-garde
design. Join us as we examine the modernist landmarks that fill this picturesque campus, including designs by
Eero Saarinen and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. Meet outside Antioch’s Olive Kettering Library at 925 Livermore
Street in Yellow Springs.
