Asbury Shorts, New York City’s longest running, non-competitive short film exhibition brings their national touring 34th Asbury Short Film Concert to The Little Art Theatre on Thursday night, October 15, 2015. The first film blasts on to the screen at 7:30pm. Asbury Shorts will be honoring celebrated Ohio based independent filmmaker Mitchell Rose by including 3 of his festival award winning shorts in the program.

Asbury Short Film Concerts combine classic, world-renowned short films with new festival honorees creating a rare opportunity for audiences to view amazing shorts on a real cinema screen rather than on computers or smart phones. Academy Award nominated director Jason Reitman (JUNO, Up in the Air, Thank You for Smoking, Young Adult) calls Asbury Shorts: “The best short film show I’ve ever seen.” The fast-paced highly entertaining screening features the best in live action comedy, drama and outstanding animation. Highlights of the October 15th show include:

“A Poet Long Ago” – from acclaimed director Bob Giraldi and written by famed novelist Pete Hamill. Steve Schirripa (HBO”s “The Sopranos”) and Boris McGiver (Netflix “House of Cards,” HBO’s “The Wire,”) star as two former grammar school classmates who meet by chance and reminisce about those younger days back in Brooklyn… opening up some old wounds.

“ASAD” – The remarkable coming of age story of a young Somali boy living precariously day-to-day in his war torn country who has to choose between becoming a renegade pirate or a honorable fisherman. ASAD was nominated for a 2013 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film and is a five-time international film festival winner.

“Globe Trot” – Mitchell Rose created this astonishing international crowd-sourced dance film. Recently awarded the Best Editing honor at The San Francisco Dance Film Festival, the film previously won First Prize at WorldFest in Houston, Texas as well as th “Audience Award” at The ShortWaves Film Festival in Poland and “Best Experimental Film” at The Crossroads Film Festival. 50 dancers/ 23 countries/ 50 cinematographers…. 1 dance!

Asbury Short Film Concerts have been presented at:
The Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Lake Shore Theatre in Chicago, Visions Cinema in Washington, D.C., Summer Stage in Central Park, The Director’s Guild Theater in Manhattan, The AERO Theatre in Santa Monica, CA and the Leminske Theater in Berlin, Germany to name just a few of the prestigious venues where audiences have enjoyed these amazing short films…and now for the first time…The Little Art Theatre!
