Screening of Documentary: Freedom Summer, 2 p.m.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Stanley Nelson (Freedom Riders, The Murder of Emmett Till) and produced by PBS. In the hot and deadly summer of 1964, over 10 memorable weeks known as Freedom Summer, more than 700 student volunteers joined with organizers and local African Americans in an historic effort to shatter the foundations of white supremacy in one of the nation’s most segregated states.

Workshop: U.S. Prisons and Alternatives to Incarceration, 4:15 p.m.
Presented by Redbird Prison Abolition, a group of people in Columbus, OH who want to see the prison system come to an end. Redbird’s activities are guided by correspondence with incarcerated people because prison abolition ought to begin with the needs of those most directly affected by the system. This workshop will provide an introduction to the US. prison system, issues of justice and incarceration and how they affect us all. It is the mission of Antioch Kitchens to provide quality meals and service to our community. Activism Then and Now: Larry Rubin, ’65, 7 p.m.
Larry Rubin, a 1965 graduate of Antioch College, served as a field secretary of the Student Nonviolence Coordinating Committee from 1961-1965 and was heavily involved in Freedom Summer. Rubin said spending time in Mississippi during those pivotal years taught him that segregation was never about keeping races apart but about keeping African Americans and poor whites unequal and disenfranchised. He has worked in the labor movement for 45 years.
