The celebrated Austrian photographer Ernst Haas said, “The camera only facilitates the taking.  The photographer must do the giving in order to transform and transcend ordinary reality.  The problem is to transform without deforming.”

While giving a lecture on Bosnia  in St. Louis, Keith Doubt chanced upon an exhibit of works from Ernst Haas at the International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum.   There was a  heartfelt connection.   “His work clarified for me my focus and my motive as a photographer.”

Doubt’s photography seeks to follow the example and guiding assumptions of Haas influential work. In St. Louis Doubt found his mentor.
