Holiday Art Jumble

The Holiday Art Jumble is back for it’s third time!

What is a Jumble? It’s an old British term for a Rummage Sale. Ours is an Art Jumble.
But it’s still about raising money for a good cause — The Yellow Springs Arts Council. And it’s painless and satisfying to pass on art that you are no longer showcasing in your home but still want it to go to something good.

This is an event that people love to come to, to see all the oddities and beauties and the “get it for a bargain” part, too.
The Arts Council Gallery Committee brings their artist eyes and skills to arrange and make everything look beautiful. Think British Tea Room at the Holidays, smelling of fresh pine and sparkling with snow. We will have the Tea Pot on and cookies to munch. Have a “cuppa” and chat with our Jumble Elves.

What can people expect to see? Yellow Springs has many world travelers so we have had art from all around the world donated each year. The art is so varied, from Framed Fine Art Paintings to a collection of magnificent Circus Posters, to Textile Art and embroidered shawls, to a teeny leather duck from Poland and a collection of painted owls. You never know what you will find at the Jumble.

If you would like to donate some art: drop off your “Art Treasure” donations from Wednesday to Sunday (1-4pm) between November 15th -December 1st at the YSAC Gallery at 111 Corry Street. (We will keep accepting donations through December 28th to restock.)

We also have an evening Jumble event. On December 13th for our Arts Alive! Program we will feature “Heartstrings” playing festive holiday music. They perform both instrumental and vocal music predominately from the Celtic and Appalachian traditions.

We will also have our first Cookie Bake Off on December 13th. We have an abundance of great bakers in Yellow Springs, and we are putting out the call to our professional bakers too for their best holiday cookies! The audience that night will be the judges. They get to sample the cookie entries and vote for the 3 winners. A selection of teas and traditional wine and cheese refreshments will be offered too. Hand crafted medals (by Dianne Collinson, a ceramic artist) and prizes for the winners will be awarded at the end of the evening. And of course the Holiday Art Jumble will be open for shopping with one of our Jumble Elves hosting.
