March 9, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm

New York Times #1 Bestselling Author Chris Tebbetts returns to Yellow Springs! Join us for a Champagne Reception with Tebbetts who will talk about how his writing career has been influenced by growing up in Yellow Springs. Author of the “Middle School” series, which inspired the recent movie that will be screened after Chris’s talk, Tebbetts looks forward to sharing insights about teens and discussing his artistic influences and take on the creative process as well as his professional challenges and successes. Chris will also read from his new book, “The Weakness of Gravity”, which is based on Yellow Springs and will be published next year.

Chris Tebbetts is the author and co-author of many books for young readers. Titles include the #1 New York Times bestselling “Middle School” series as well as “Public School Superhero” with James Patterson and illustrator Laura Park, the New York Times bestselling “Stranded” series with Jeff Probst, the young adult novel “M or F?” with Lisa Papademetriou, and “The Viking” series. His work has received children’s choice awards in Oregon and Hawaii, and Tebbetts has been nominated for the Sunshine State Young Readers Award and his books have been given a nod on the New York Public Library’s annual list of Books for the Teen Age. He is a native of Yellow Springs, Ohio and currently lives in Hinesburg, Vermont.

Doors open at 6:30pm, and the ticket price ($25) includes hors d’oeuvres, unlimited champagne (cash bar also available) and the movie, “Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life”. Chris will be signing copies of his books prior to his 7:30 conversation thanks to the generous support of Dark Star Books and Comics. And, we are happy to have Becky Brunsman who directed Tebbetts in school plays introducing Chris. This will be a fun evening and all proceeds support the Little Art Theatre!

While Chris is visiting Yellow Springs, he will engage with our local students, discussing his books and creative writing as well as highlighting ‘art of the possible’. There will also be a special $5 matinee of “Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life” on Sunday, March 12, 4pm with a book signing hosted by Dark Star Books and Comics starting at 3pm in the Little Art Theatre Lobby. Following the screening, Tebbetts will discuss the movie and answer questions.

Many go through grade school with someone who later becomes well known for great achievements in her or his field…We feel proud…We knew them when…! Wouldn’t you love to know their life trajectories? The ups and downs of their careers? How their formative years in Yellow Springs contributed to who they are today? The Little Art’s “Homecoming Series” was created with this in mind. We look forward to bringing our famous Yellow Springers back home to catch up with the community through intimate and frank conversations.
