The Village Artisans Gallery in Yellow Springs is inviting community artists (Yellow Springs, Dayton and surrounding vicinities) to  get really creative and make a piece for their “Up-Cycled Art Show.” Deadline to receive entries is August 29, 2017. The show runs from August 31 – October 2, 2017, with an Artists Reception on Friday, September 15, 2017, 6 PM – 9 PM.

What is up-cycled art? It’s art made by taking something not typically thought of as art material and using it alone, or in combination with traditional art materials and techniques, to make a piece of art. Create your masterpiece by finding something you would normally recycle or throw away and let your creativity go to work. Look around -there are so many inspirational objects, materials, shapes, colors and textures just waiting to become part of your art! If you Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – think Reuse!

To enter, fill out the entry form and turn it in with your artwork. Entry forms are available in Village Artisans Gallery and on (or soon to be on) the website: http://villageartisans.blogspot.com.  You can enter up to 3 pieces. Entry fee for the first piece is $10; each additional piece is $5. Entries may be 2- or 3-dimensional and no larger 18 x 24 inches. Upon drop-off, all work should be securely wired for hanging or, if 3D, stable and ready to display; if it is not – it will not be considered for the show. Work should be clearly labeled on the back (2D) or bottom (3D) with completed entry tags.  If possible, please write a short explanation (to fit on a 3″ x 5″ card) of materials used and how you made your up-cycled art; we will hang it with your piece. Deliver art work and completed application between 8/25 – 8/29/17 to:  Village Artisans Gallery,  100 Corry St., Yellow Springs, OH 45387. The show will be hung August 30. If artwork sells, Village Artisans retains a 10% commission.  More details are on the entry forms.
