Celebration of Former Antioch Professor Martin Worman

The Performance Program at Antioch College is proud to present “WIG-OUT,” a birthday celebration, film screening, student reading and drag event for experimental performer and former Antioch professor Martin Worman on Sunday, July 19 at 1:00 p.m. in the Foundry Theater.

Martin Worman (July 19, 1945–November 25, 1993) was an actor, playwright, lyricist, director, female impersonator, activist and academic, working primarily in San Francisco and New York City from the late 1960s through the early 1990s. He is most known for being a member of the psychedelic San Francisco drag troupe, The Cockettes. In 1992, he arrived at Antioch; he died of AIDS in Dayton, Ohio on November 25, 1993.

On what would be his 70th birthday, all are invited to come in drag or their favorite finery to toast Worman, learn about WIG, the new Worman Review of Performance Research at Antioch College, watch the 2002 documentary The Cockettes, and eat birthday cake.

Named after former Antioch professor Worman, the WIG student journal will gather the strongest student research on performance, live art practice, art experimentation and cultural studies generated in Antioch’s performance history and critical studies classes.

WIG-OUT Schedule:

Welcome and Drag Runway–1:00 p.m.
WIG readings & Birthday cake–1:30 p.m.
Screening of The Cockettes–2:15-4:00 p.m.
