Yellow Springs Music Festival VI

December 18, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Local pianist Sam Reich will be joined by cellist Eva Lymenstull, violinist Vivek Jayaraman, and flutist Christopher Chaffee to present an all Prokofiev program in the Foundry Theater at Antioch College, December 18th at 8 pm. Prokofiev composed three instrumental duo sonatas, one each for violin, cello and flute with piano accompaniment. These works were written during Prokofiev’s war period between 1938 and 1946, at which time Prokofiev was accused of Formalism and his music censored.

The Yellow Springs Piano Fest is a year long series of concerts which aim to raise money to repair the Steinway piano in the Foundry Theater at Antioch College. The piano is a vital resource for the community, and the finest instrument in Yellow Springs. This the sixth concert of the festival.

Cellist Eva Lymenstull has appeared as a recitalist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer on stages throughout Europe and the U.S., including London’s Royal Albert and Royal Festival Halls, the Stadsgehoorzaal in Leiden, the Eglise St. Louis cathedral in Paris, the Royal Palace in Amsterdam, the Liechtenstein Palace in Valtice, and historic castles and churches across the Netherlands.

Vivek Jayaraman recently completed a four-year fellowship with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, FL. He has made several orchestral festival appearances with Spoleto Festival, Artosphere Festival Orchestra, Britten-Pears and Schleswig-Holstein. Jayaraman has performed with the New York Philharmonic and Detroit Symphony Orchestra and is a regular member of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra in Switzerland as well as concert master of the Canton Symphony.

Yellow Springs resident Christopher Chaffee is Professor of Flute and Director of Graduate Studies in Music at Wright State University, Instructor of Flute at Interlochen Arts Camp, and a Yamaha Performing Artist. Dr. Chaffee is a recording artist and blogger with New York City based Open G Records, and his 2015 album Four Prayers is available worldwide. As a member of the Wright Winds quintet and Sapphire Wind Trio, he regularly performs school concerts and recitals across the country. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Ohio Alliance for Arts Education, Vice President of Chamber Music Yellow Springs, and a volunteer with Tecumseh Land Trust and Mills Lawn Schools.
