Ixcanul

November 3, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

AUM, in partnership with the Dayton Hispanic Chamber, invites the public to join us for a free viewing of Ixcanul–a film exploring Mayan life in rural Guatemala through the lens of two Kaqchikel youth following their dreams.

This movie provides a glimpse into a culture few of us will ever experience. The film touches on themes of women’s issues, religion and spirituality, social justice and human rights, and Latin American studies. Guatemalan filmmaker Jayro Bustamante describes it as, “A mesmerizing fusion of fact and fable, a dreamlike depiction of the daily lives of Kaqchikel speaking Mayans on a coffee plantation at the base of an active volcano. Immersing us in its characters’ customs and beliefs, Ixcanul chronicles with unblinking realism, a disappearing tradition and a disappearing people.”

The film content is of a mature nature not appropriate for children.

Please join us for a light reception following the film in the AUM multipurpose room.

More information about the film can be found at: https://www.kinolorber.com/film/ixcanul.

RSVP for this free event at: https://www.facebook.com/events/344666832533837/

Doors open at 6:30 PM. Film at 7PM.
