Features an Exhibition of Painting, Collages and Prints: “Color: Impressions and Improvisations”

The Glen Helen Atrium Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of painting, collages and prints entitled “Color: Impressions and Improvisations” by Dayton artist, A. Joseph Barrish 

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Barrish is a gallery supervisor of Gallery St. John and director of Sun and Stars Artworks Design Studio. He has received numerous awards for his work, and has exhibited his work throughout the United States. He has been represented in galleries in Chicago, Ireland,  and New York City, and in numerous private collections in Los Angeles, St. Louis and throughout Ohio. He has illustrated books and is a print maker doing woodcuts, serigraphs and etchings. 

“I have found that observing nature give us all kinds of clues how to use color in art efforts, “ says Barrish. “I also have an interest in the older city neighborhoods and much of the Victorian architecture that still exists in many of the older towns in the States.  I’ve taken liberties with color and shapes but have tried to retain the flavor of these wonderful buildings, but jazz things up a bit.” 

The public is invited to meet the artist at the opening reception on Sunday, August 31, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. At 3:00 p.m., Brother Joseph will give a brief talk and will answer questions.

The Glen Helen Atrium Gallery is located in the Vernet Ecological Center (formerly the Glen Helen Building) at 405 Corry Street in Yellow Springs. Show hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily. Admission is free.
