Part of the Antioch College course History of Documentary Cinema, each film in this film series will include an introduction, historical background, and post-screening discussion led by Assistant Professor of Media Arts, Charles Fairbanks.

Sunday, January 11: Nanook of the North (1922), the cinematic milestone that tells the story of an Inuit hunter and his family as they struggle in the harsh conditions of Canada’s Hudson Bay region

Sunday, January 25: Man with a Movie Camera (1929), now considered “the greatest documentary of all time” it was immediately controversial and then widely ignored until filmmakers in the ‘60s saw its radical potential.

Sunday, February 15: Growing Up Female, and two additional shorts (1971), filmed by then-Antioch College students and current Yellow Springs residents Julia Reichert and Jim Klein. Reichert will participate in the pre-screening introduction and post-screening discussion.

Sunday, March 8: Waltz with Bashir (2008), an animated film that documents a massacre of thousands of innocent civilians.
