“The Nature Of Yellow Springs” Art By Christine Klinger Opening

January 20, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The Yellow Springs Senior Center, at 227 Xenia Avenue, is presenting paintings of Yellow Springs by resident Christine Klinger, January 20 – February 28, 2017, with an Opening Reception on Friday, January 20, 4 – 7 PM. Both the exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.

Christine Klinger is a mixed media visual artist and, although she has travelled throughout many states and countries, she feels most at home in and around her current village of Yellow Springs, Ohio. When she chose the theme for her current exhibit, and while gathering the paintings, Christine also renewed the feelings she has for the area. “Yellow Springs is just beautiful – inside and out,” she said. “There are so many ways to express yourself artistically here; for this show I chose to focus on the natural aspects of my surroundings.”

Klinger has a master’s in Photojournalism from Ohio University in Athens, and a bachelor’s in Psychology from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH.  She has written and photographed for publication since 1980. Working in clay sculpture since 1995, Klinger received a Visual Artist Fellowship from the Montgomery County (OH) Arts & Cultural District for 2009/2010. She began painting in 2006, and was granted an Artist in Residency in painting and photography from the State of South Carolina in 2011.

Christine has taught photography and sculpture at colleges and community art centers in Ohio, South Carolina and California.  She currently teaches painting privately, and in small groups at the Yellow Springs Library.

Klinger was Gallery Coordinator at Rosewood Arts Centre in Kettering, OH, from 1996 through 2005 and Assistant Director of the San Luis Obispo (CA) Arts Center in 2005 and 2006. She owned and operated Springs Gallery in Yellow Springs, OH, from 2011 – 2013 and is a current member of Village Artisans cooperative art gallery in Yellow Springs.

Reading from her artist statement, Klinger said, “I continue to be intrigued by the many styles and challenges of painting. When weather permits, I may paint in oils, primarily en plein air (French for “in the open air”) to see and capture my impressions of the place and the quality of the colors and light. My themes are all Nature-oriented; painting, for me, is a meditation on Nature.  My artwork continues to evolve and surprise me. Sometimes I lean toward impressionism and at other times I work in a more abstract, expressionistic style. I find it is often the weather, my mood, and the various themes I choose to explore that dictate my work.”

Klinger has won several awards in photography, sculpture and painting. She has exhibited out of state and, locally, at The Winds Café in Yellow Springs, the Yellow Springs Artist Studio Tour, Dayton Art Institute, Dayton Visual Arts Center, Rosewood Gallery, Springfield (OH) Museum of Art, and many others. Her work is in private and corporate collections. Christine’s upcoming solo exhibits for 2017 include the Yellow Springs Brewery in April, the Meadowlark Restaurant in Centerville in July, and as the featured artist in the Village Artisans Gallery in October. She can be contacted and more of her work can be seen at www.klingerart.com.
